New Zealand Entertainment News

Remy Wiffen, the son of former Central Pulse netball player Daya Wiffen, died in a pond near Otaki last Monday, July 2nd.

According to reports, the incident happened on a rural property near Otaki. Emergency services were called to the property at around 6pm. It is understood that Remy had fallen into the pond and drowned.

No other details have been provided.

“Despite the best efforts of emergency services the child could not be revived,” said a police spokeswoman.

The death, which has already been referred to the coroner, is not being treated as suspicious.

“Remy was the life of the party. Always getting up to mischief and messing with his big brother’s lego,” remembers a friend of the Wiffen family. “The most beautiful boy who was so cheeky and adventurous. Daya would call him her little Critter … he was daddy’s special boy.”

The PIC Netball Club posted on Facebook: “It is with great sadness we inform our members of the passing of one of our P.I.C babies, Remy, cherised son of Daya & Sam Wiffen. We extend our love, prayers & healing to the Pritchard & Wiffen whānau during this very difficult time.”  The players will be meeting as a club, and will be wearing uniforms at the funeral.

“Our thoughts are with Daya and her family in what must be a very, very difficult time,” said a Central Pulse spokeswoman.

Remy’s funeral service will be on Friday, July 3rd, at Nga Purapura on Tasman Rd, Otaki.
