The angel, known to the public only as “Angel,” has made an internet broadcast claiming that “we are all entitled to be loved unconditionally for who we really are” and that she will be “doing all of humanity a favour” if she carries out her explosive plans.

Angel is a funny and touching contemporary clown theatre show. Created by the most talented of Christchurch’s independent circus, theatre and music artists, Angel takes an irreverent and playful look at modern spiritual alternatives.

Angel tells the story of an angel fallen to earth and longing to return to heaven. A sweetness pervades the piece as the angel discovers and pursues earthly ways of achieving enlightenment.

Three uniquely talented women have brought their expertise together in the creation of Angel:
Olli Ricken (circus tutor at Christchurch Polytech) is masterful as the angel, gifting the audience a depth that her 17 years of experience in clowntheatre and circus allow her.
Lucette Hindin (the clinic) brings to the piece her unique skill and ten years of professional experience creating cutting edge and beautiful devised theatre.
Arielle Atman, intuitive pianist, has created music for Angel which on its own would satisfy an audience for an hour.
Angel catches these three at the height of their creative careers. A funny, thoughtful, and expertly delivered piece of theatre.

Season: Saturday 6th - Saturday 13th March 2010 (no show Sun/Mon)
The Best of Auckland Fringe 09 smacks down in Wellington with the show that left audiences “laughing uncontrollably” (Theatreview). "A little gem" (Theatreview).

Likened to the work of television’s Summer Heights High creator Chris Lilley, Ruby Tuesday sees the actors switch among a range of characters from teenage delinquents to a headmistress who rules with an iron fist. Set to music by Philip Glass and embracing themes of missed opportunities, love and beauty in the ordinary; Simmons injects a new sense of style and energy to classical ballet.

Choreographer: Andrew Simmons
Music: Tirol Concerto by Philip Glass
Design: Kate Venables
Lighting: Jordan Tuinman

Silhouette
Acclaimed UK-based choreographer Christopher Hampson - creator of RNZB's Cinderella and Romeo & Juliet - returns down under to deck dancers out in black tutus for the premiere of his work Silhouette. Inspired by Poulenc's Concert Champêtre, this dynamic new commission featuring the full company is guaranteed to dazzle.

Choreographer: Christopher Hampson
Music: Concert Champêtre by Francis Poulenc
Design: Gary Harris
Lighting: Jordon Tuinman

A Million Kisses to My Skin
David Dawson's sublime A Million Kisses to My Skin was first performed by the Royal New Zealand Ballet in 2005. Capturing the tempo of Bach's Concerto No 1, this fluid and visually stunning work has been described as a "bravura vocabulary of movement that swoops, dips and swirls and is passed on from dancer to dancer as though they are sharing the sheer joy of movement".

Choreographer and set design: David Dawson
Music: Concerto No 1 in D minor by Johan Sebastian Bach
Costume design: Yumiko Takeshima
Lighting: Bert Dalhuysen, recreated by Jordan Tuinman

NZ International Arts Festival

Date: Friday 26th February 10 - Sunday 21st March 10

The New Zealand International Arts Festival is a biennial multi-arts festival held in the capital city, Wellington. It is New Zealand's premier and largest cultural event and celebrates the best arts entertainment from around the world and within New Zealand.

Festival 2010 features award-winning theatre that pushes boundaries, in Sound of Silence - a play without words to the restaging of Apollo 13: Mission Control, an unforgettable, interactive theatre experience. From the breathtaking sequence of movement and acrobatics of Shaolin monks in Sutra, to the visionary choreography of Good Morning, Mr. Gershwin, the Festival's dance programme reveals a deep curiosity concerning cultures and genres. The monumental music events range from Mahler Symphony No. 8 led by world renowned conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy, to the legendary sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar and the smooth stylings of jazz great Branford Marsalis. New Zealand Post Writers and Readers week plays host to renowned authors, including Neil Gaiman, Richard Dawkins and Simon Schama, certain to challenge and entertain.

In 2008 the Festival delivered over 360 individual performances, featuring theatre, classical and world music, opera, dance, jazz, a literary programme, seminars, exhibitions, education activities and free events, making it one of the largest events in Australasia. In 2010 a total of 930 artists from 30 countries will bring the latest in international theatre, music, dance and visual arts to New Zealand.

While the major focus of the Festival is on international works, it also showcases the best of New Zealand work, fostering creative and professional opportunities for many New Zealand artists. The Festival has commissioned a significant body of new work, producing more than 89 new plays, operas, music, dance and other events that tell our stories and reflect our culture.

www.festival.co.nz

NZ International Comedy Festival

Date: Friday 23th April 10 - Sunday 16th May 10

The New Zealand International Comedy Festival returns for 2010 with a stellar lineup of the best national and international comedy acts.

Full details as they become available can be found at www.comedyfestival.co.nz.
